Karonga Women's Rice Cooperative
Community-led Development
KAWORIG at a Glance
Our Background
The Karonga Women's Rice Group (KAWORIG) was formed with the aims of eradicating poverty amongst the most disadvantaged in our community, particularly women, through the set-up of a rice-selling cooperative. KAWORIG now house a new warehouse that will enable the rice processing business to sustainably expand by acting as a hub, meaning more women will be able to be involved, with the aim being to increase participation to more than 200 women 5 years after completion of the project. Unprocessed rice will be stored in the warehouse, meaning that it’ll be available to the women all year round instead of only being seasonally available, giving the women a more stable income source.

What We Do
Services Section Subtitle
We carry on productive, sustainable rice businesses and services which will contribute to poverty alleviation through employment creation, raising income levels for poor resourced women in the community we serve.
We exist to fight poverty and illiteracy among women through supporting girls education by paying fees to poor girls and supporting building facilities at school that make a conducive environment for girls education.
We also carry on any other activities which may seem to the Group to be conducive to its interests generally and to the interests of the community that the Group is established to serve.
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, I used everything you gave me.
